I Didn't See That One Coming

Yesterday I learned that a person I know professionally but don't know all that well personally was taken to the hospital and is on life support. To say that I was stunned by the news would be a gross understatement. One day the person is here, alive and alert. The next day? Not so much. It is yet another example of how fragile life is. I went to bed frustrated about some aspects of my life. I am awake now because I find myself making new commitments about how I want to live if this turns out to be my last conscious moment on this planet. writing here is one way to anchor that commitment.

I am involved with an adventurous group of friends in what has come to be known as "Journey Farthest Out." In sites around California people gather for a week of spiritual exploration and discovery. Each site has it's own charm. Some of us travel to each site. Some travel to only one site. The diversity of the individuals involved create a wonderful, and sometimes challenging, mix of energies and spirits. The format of each gathering is generally the same. The diversity of the individuals involved, however, makes each gathering special and unique.

In a few words that is what life, for me, is all about. Life IS a journey. That journey is what leads me to this spot in cyberspace.

Having been on the planet for more than a day or two it is increasingly apparent that my mind sometimes visits places that can best be described as "an island unto itself." That is not necessarily a negative thing but it does cause me to wonder if I am alone in these thoughts.

Having heard about blogging and read the postings of friends this seems to be a good resource to share my thoughts and see what, if any, response they receive.

Thanks to this technology, this new adventure leads me to a new Journey Farthest Out.
